We need to evolve, to meet the needs of the people who are part of our lives wherever they are. The community coffee shop is a response to that desire – something different, somewhere special.
Between 8 and 930 you’re very welcome to come along and pay what you feel for a breakfast. If you’ve got no cash, that’s fine. If you’d like to contribute some, that’s good too. And if you’d like to give us money that will enable us to pay for all our outgoings, even better. Kids are especially welcome: schools providing meals is great, but what about holiday times? They can be a real stretch for low income households.
Later in the day, we offer lunches. Some of the food you again pay what you feel – soups and fruit say. And we offer baked potatoes, paninis, salads, and some other items (including gluten-free options) that we need to charge for because of their cost to us.
Of course, there’s always coffee available, and some other drinks too. Come and see for yourself. Maybe you’d like to volunteer – there’s no better way than doing something useful to meet new people.
If you’d like to sponsor breakfasts for a week, get in touch. For as little as £50 your business could get involved with what we’re doing in that way, and we’re more than happy to talk about other possibilities.
We have other plans too. Having a computer would mean people can apply for CVs and talk with their families. That and free WiFi will encourage people to make more use of the café. Providing clothes washing and drying facilities is a gamechanger for some. And it all provides opportunities for groups in the community to use our space.
